Hey everyone, so I’m back on campus.. I spent most of my break watching The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) which I recently got into. TBBT is basically a nerdy show that highlights the coolness of nerdom and being smart. Although I’ve been caught up in TBBT, I ended up procrastinating my studies so I’m going to have to do that and get ready for my test on Monday in Organic Chemistry. Aside from that let me hit up a couple of things.

Going back I got to eat some of my mom’s delicious food. She made some Pho, a Vietnamese noodle dish that tastes very yummy. Have you guys ever had it?

.My large bowl of Pho! Yummy.

Second Photo I took, I couldn’t decide which one was better.

Some other things I did over break was work at the YMCA in my hometown Woburn and catch up with some of my friends. Other than that, I wasn’t very productive.. I’ll keep you all updated soon!

Best,

Dan Luu

Hey Everyone,

This will be quick

-I am busy with all my classes.. as always.. academics here are sure rough..

– Because I’m so busy.. I’ll have to catch up with you all later, but before that I need to catch up with my work

– So In conclusion, expect a longer post next week when I will be on break, and I hope you all enjoyed your day.

Dan

Hey guys,

So I am back on campus and I’ve spent a good amount of time in my classes. So far so good and I should have probably updated this earlier, but I am taking the time out now to do it before everything gets too hectic. Few updates I’ll show you now:

1. My Bio class is split into two Botany and Zoology. The class I’m currently taking is Botany and it’s a very interesting class, especially the labs. I got to eat and try new foods.. I ate cyano-bacteria popcorn.. and a lot of algae. I’ll be continuing to try new things as time progresses throughout my six weeks in botany before I switch over to Zoology.

All these types of algae I’ve tried during my biology lab. The seaweed typically found in sushi tasted best to me, the others were really strong and had a bold taste. I’m not used to it, but I can see why some people would like to eat it a lot. :

Different Types of Edible Algae

I ate this, and it tasted really good, the cyanobacteria (dried) turns out to be actually really good for you! I highly recommend this for those looking for a better alternative to buttered popcorn

The was what was on the popcorn and it tasted good. You can these from a Whole Foods are some other healthy store? I’m not too sure other than Whole Foods.

2. Math is a bit new to me, as I’m in calculus 2 now and the concepts are getting slightly harder, so we will see how that stands.

3. I am taking Organic Chemistry and so far.. I haven’t dropped out yet, but then again it’s nothing super super new that I am super foreign to, so I will also have to wait until the first test before I see any results.

4. My Montserrat is on ethical consumption this semester and so far, in my opinion much better than last semester. The class teaches us how to consume ethically and how we can make an impact with our dollar. I’m currently in the process of writing a book review on Branded! “How the ‘Certification Revolution’ is Transforming Global Corporations” by Michael E. Conroy, and it will be posted up onto my class’s website. I’ll update you guys on it when the reviews come out. I also did something called the money experiment in class where we were tested on how much we actually worship something we created and how fixated we are on money, whether money is more important to us than real value things. I was 1 of 5 who actually ripped the dollar for the experiment without any second thought because 1 dollar doesn’t have any value to me. People have wasted money, more than a dollar many times in their life and when it comes to physically ripping it, people can’t do it. Fortunately for me, I was raised to worship things more than money, like putting my values in love, family, friends, and my own pursuit of happiness.

Here’s a dollar ripped; how much did you really value money? (Aside from being really poor and needing the money but if that were the case I don’t think you’d be able to read my post)  Honestly, how many times have you wasted money before? Was it more than a dollar? Or was it less? You would probably be more willing to use it now to a better cause that you see it being ‘wasted’ but really, would you have done that otherwise yourself (ie. actually gone out to give a poor homeless person a dollar?)

Anyways that was a bit recap of what has been going on the last two weeks. I hope I can keep this up more, but sometimes it’s hard you know? Nevertheless, I won’t stop posting for those who read!
Best,

Dan Luu

Hi everyone!

So I’m back in school today, one day before the new semester officially starts and this is also the Year of the Dragon on the Lunar/Chinese calendar. I haven’t really been celebrating as much as, nor doing anything super productive. I’m doing the usual browsing the internet for memes, looking around Reddit for something interesting, and protesting SOPA/PIPA. All that fun stuff aside, I’m trying to get acclimated to being back to school and I’m not really going to have much time to just laze around. So like every New Year (Lunar or the normal New Years, even though I’m late) I have made three simple resolutions.

1. Work harder on school/study more/academia (typical do better in school attitude, though this is also worth $200k+ at least to do well). I didn’t do so well in biology as I had wanted (B), nor in my Montserrat and I would like to improve my GPA to at least a 3.5 or better.

2. Try to stay active in Lions Club. I’m not going to start a lions club at Holy Cross (using their name) and just make my own Worcester club so I can have anyone who’d be a good community member be able to join. Over break I went to a winter conference for my local lions district, and it was great. I had a lot of fun talking with my old friends and the people in lions, and every time I go to an event, I feel rejuvenated and want to continue volunteering my time to help those in needs.

3. Get started in my career path (psychiatrist) and find a job or internship that will help me along the way. Currently I’m looking if I can help with a research position at Holy Cross with professors during the summer and I’m excited to see what I can do to help!

(4. Post more on this blog.. and add the ton of pictures I took on my phone to the blog.. haha..)

All in all, I’m ready for the semester to start, but I’m really excited to continue on with life and to see what the “real” world is, being on my own is fun and all, but in many ways I still feel a bit restricted so I’m going to work on getting ready for when I’m really “on my own”.

What are your New Years resolutions? Have a question? Just ask me! and if I get any I’ll make a Friday blog answering your questions!

Dan Luu

Hey everyone, happy New Years!  What’s great about being in college right now is the break. Everyone is back in high school, and here I am, writing my blog. I’m working as a bank teller and doing a lot of reading.

I get to catch up on my books and manga (Japanese comics) during this break. Some great books to read: The Giver by Lois Lowry, and Paper Towns by John Green (Just recently finished these). John Green is an amazing author, and he also wrote one of my favorite books, Looking For Alaska , which is about a boy who loves memorizing last words of famous people, and the story revolves around his life with this girl Alaska. The book is all around awesome, and it had a profound impact on my life.

John Green also makes videos with his brother Hank Green on YouTube known as the vlogbrothers and they have a community of followers known as “nerdfighters” and follow a strong motto DFTBA (don’t forget to be awesome) . I’m going to see John this coming Tuesday (1/10/12) to John’s book tour with his brother for his newest book The Fault in Our Stars with my friends, and I”m really excited to read the book and to see him on tour.

Just thought I’d give you guys an update on what’s happening in my life in this New year. Hope you all start our the New Year strong and get started on those New Years resolutions, I’m just happy I have some time for reading!

Best,

Dan Luu

So as the title says, I surived the first semester of my freshman year! I finished finals and classes so everyone is all over. As a recap on what it’s like studying for finals. For this semester what we had was a 3 day study period before our finals started. What this means is that we had our last class on Friday and then we had three days until Tuesday where our finals begin. I felt really rushed about this and wish we would have had a longer study/reading period. I did pretty well on my finals and everything was okay, but I just feel that we should have had the weekend off to ourselves to relax and not use for studying. Anyways, I would hope for a longer study break during the coming semesters.

Regardless, school is done and you know what that means? A 1 month break!! What are you guys going to be doing over your breaks? All I have planned right now is working at my bank, Central Bank. My bank is pretty awesome because I won their $1k scholarship and work for them as a teller. I’m also going to cover shifts at my local YMCA because I’ve been there for around 4 years now, and I owe the Y a lot because they provided me with tons of working experience. I also hope to make more connections at hospitals and get connected with people that would help me in my career with medicine. I’ll also update the blog a lot more, because I have a lot of free time to write and update you guys on my daily life.

Hopoe all is well and happy holidays!  As always you can ask me any questions you’d like to know and I’ll answer them on Friday if I get any.

Dan Luu

So hi everyone! I made it through the last week of classes! So I stayed up and pulled an all nighter on Monday and then went through all of Tuesday’s classes from 8AM-930PM (Though my lab from 630-930 got out early because we were presenting our reports). So that was that. Right now I should be studying for my big finals coming up and then bam. Semester is over. I’ll be updating you guys throughout break and I’ll tell you all the new updates and what I thought about my first semester in college.

I hope the best with everyone and

Merry Holidays!

Dan Luu

Hey everyone! So this week is the last week of classes before finals. This also means my first semester is coming to an end!! What does this mean? Well for starters… you can see everyone getting last minute papers done, libraries packed at 1AM, and everyone in a high stressed state.. So, what do I have? Well as I’m writing to you, I have due all for tomorrow, my final paper for my Montserrat class, my lab report for Biology and a practical for my chemistry class. All in one day! Man Tuesday is going to be tough for me, I’ll tell you guys how it goes at the end tomorrow (so you’ll get two blogs this week!). Then on Wednesday I will have my last Math exam to do, followed by my last Biology quiz on Friday.

A lot of work this week guys, I hope you’re all getting ready for Christmas or Holidays rather (to be PC) and then we can enjoy the break and it’ll be a very nice and relaxing vacation for me, I hope..

Anyways best wishes!

Dan Luu

So even though it’s the holiday and we’re all on break getting fat off of our thanksgiving food, I’m pretty busy with my workload. I have to set-up a club, write a very large paper for my Montserrat, study for my biology quiz on Monday, have a test in Bio that Friday, work on my lab report for biology, and re-look at my chemistry notes because I know I didn’t do well on my last test. So a bunch of busy things going on… I need to get started on all these things, but I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving!

Little Turkey facts: The reason why we’re all tired after eating all the Turkey is because Turkeys have a lot of tryptophan in them and that makes us feel tired.

Also when you eat your turkey, you should know that it is artificially inseminated, meaning we’ve grown turkeys to be so fat that they can no long reproduce on their own and we need to well you know, inseminate them.

Best wishes!

Dan Luu

Hey everyone, so I’ve decided to start something new and fun, that is question Fridays! Just write a comment and ask me anything you’d like and I’ll make a post every Friday answering all your questions. They can be about the school, what I’m up to, or even advice questions (if you think I’d be a good advice giver)

So just comment on any one of my blogs anytime you feel like it with a question and I’ll add them to Friday’s blog.

Dan
